Paul McCartney said after it was released in 1966, "'Yellow Submarine” is very simple but very different. It's a fun song, a children's song.” Regardless of the intention, it received various social and political interpretations over the years. A 51 foot yellow submarine metal sculpture was built by apprentices from the Cammell Laird shipyard in 1984. In 2005 it was placed outside Liverpool's John Lennon Airport, where it remains.
