Do you remember the 21st night of September?

Today is the 21st Day of September, which falls under the Virgo sign of the zodiac, and also marks one of the most famous calendar days associated with a song.

Do you remember the 21st night of September? Love was changing the minds of pretenders While chasing the clouds away

Being a Virgo myself (an earth sign), I was always drawn to the music of Earth, Wind & Fire. So much of their music and lyrics are rooted in spirituality and Eastern philosophies; another reason I felt a connection.  The lyrical content of their songs was so ahead of its time and so drastically different from other soul music of the era. It’s one of the reasons the band is one of the most critically acclaimed of the 20th century and is more relevant today than ever before.

Call it destiny, astrology, a soul connection or the law of attraction, but the lyrics which initially drew me in eventually led to a long friendship with the band’s lead bassist Verdine White. We met almost 15 years ago at the Jimmy Kimmel show and have stayed in touch through our travels and life journey. He is probably one of the best bassists on the planet and the reason for the band’s signature groove that makes you want to jump up and start singing :

Ba de ya, say do you remember Ba de ya, dancing in September

Verdine brings so much soul into the music, I’m absolutely sure it affects the vibration of the earth. If you have ever seen him perform, you’ll understand that he literally puts all of the energy in his body and soul out there. It’s literally an outer body experience for him and everyone who is fortunate enough to witness it.

Today we celebrate September 21st and the timeless music of Earth, Wind & Fire. If you haven’t seen them in concert, make sure it’s on your bucket list.
